Why “Apt”?
To be apt is to be appropriate, suitable for that particular circumstance. To be congruous, fitting, relevant. To make sense. What is apt in one situation may be different from another. I want to help you find solutions that are apt for you and your dog.
Why Work With Apt Canine?
You’re probably here because you need help with your dog. And you just don’t understand: “Why does he keep doing that?” It’s natural for humans to want to understand things. And I’m right there with you: I want to know ‘why’ too! That means I’m going to work with you to understand your dog and figure out the pieces that haven’t made sense up until now.
Here’s another thing—can I let you in on a little secret?
I’m a dog trainer, but for my own dogs, I don’t want to be training them all day, every day. Unless it’s for fun, like a sport or something, I kind of just want to live harmoniously with them, hang out and enjoy their company.
I’m willing to assume that’s you, too. You’re busy. You’re desperate for the behaviour to stop, but you didn’t get a dog because you wanted to be a full-time dog trainer in your own home. And I get it, I really do.
So: wanna know a cool thing?
Sometimes when we figure out the ‘why,’ all it takes for you to live harmoniously with your dog is a few simple tweaks. Yes, there will be times when a longer training plan is warranted. But in the spirit of mediation, I want to use my knowledge to help you see what’s going on. Together we can then find the simplest solution that is workable for you and fair to the dog. I don’t want to give you a training plan that is unsustainable or too much of a burden for you, only to place the blame on you for not following it when the behaviour doesn’t change.
Let’s work together and get creative.
Let’s find the very best solution for both you and your dog.

Licensed Family Dog Mediator® and Certified Canine Behavior Counselor Chloe has always shared her life with dogs, and has always been interested in understanding them better. A voracious learner, she is constantly adding to her knowledge and refining her skills at every opportunity. In addition to formal education, she believes that dogs themselves are our best teachers when it comes to dog behaviour, so she seizes every chance to just observe dogs being dogs and doing dog things. She even had the opportunity, when she lived in Southeast Asia, to observe dogs in their true natural habitat: as friendly scavengers roaming the streets of human civilisation.
Chloe is the first certified (now licensed) Family Dog Mediator® in the Tri-Cities. She also holds certificates in Canine Behavior Counselling and Canine Enrichment. She is passionate about helping dogs, and also about helping people. She feels that professionals have a duty of kindness toward both ends of the leash, and that families deserve all the love and support for doing the very best they can f0r the dogs they love. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, reading, writing, and long hikes with her corgi, Cordelia.
Cordelia
Outlands Jewel of the Sagebrush Sea BCAT CGCDelia is simply a delight. She is confident and curious, adapts well to whatever comes her way, and has a lot of opinions and personality. Because she comes from herding lines, she is extremely responsive, whip-smart, and athletic. Her intelligence and enthusiasm make her a joy to train, the flip-side being that she is easily bored and frustrated, and does like to put her own spin on something, or offer a different behaviour entirely!
She has a wide-range of distinguished hobbies, which include long off-leash walks, catching popcorn out of the air, and herding. We are also working on skills for Rally and possibly the AKC Obedience ring.
